For dreams are the only realities 

When you are given the words "creative freedom" and the assurance that "we trust you," it becomes your responsibility to venture beyond the boundaries of the ordinary, exploring realms that range from the sublime to the absurd. Nothing is off-limits, and every possibility is open for exploration. For luxury party planners, this was our dream.
Collaborating with clients who value authenticity and honesty in art opens a vast canvas for creative exploration. Surrealism, with its emphasis on freedom of expression, provides an intriguing foundation for such work. René Magritte captured this concept perfectly when he described his art as “visible images for the blind, sounds for the deaf, a place for the placeless, a time for the timeless.” This sentiment offers an inspiring starting point for projects that aim to transcend conventional boundaries and explore the limitless possibilities of creativity.

What We Did ...

Our cast of extraordinary performers adopted various roles throughout the evening, some as visual statuettes, pieces of living art to be viewed in context of the Surrealist environment, with others taking a more hands-on approach interacting with the guests. Each performer had their own story to tell, with a unique talent and skill.

The cacophony of colour within the ballroom was a riot, both from our guests who embraced the theme wholeheartedly, and the cast whose costume, hair and make-up were individually considered for this party. Every single performance was curated specifically for this luxury event, brought together and curated in a symphony of artistic brilliance. It was a stroke of genius to have Prangsta, the wandering dress-up closest, on site for guests to use … the outfits were *chefs kiss* exceptional.

After the midnight snacks made the rounds, and the night turned to the early hours, a selection of DJs graced the decks, and the beats blared out with house and techno taking over. Hardcore dance the night away. This will go down as one of the parties of a lifetime.

The Surrealist Ball

Surrealism, with its focus on freedom of expression, offers a captivating foundation for a party theme. This event truly defied reason in the best possible ways, immersing guests in a dreamlike world of fantasy and imagination. It was a celebration of positive expression, where our party-goers could escape the confines of their rational realities and step into a realm of surreality, for one night only. 

Brief

The grand finale to a weekend of celebrations, this event was the ultimate opportunity for guests to fully embrace the magic of the night. To provide costume and imaginative attire, bespoke food design and cocktails, and a party into the early hours; a night of pure escapism. 

Our brief was to create an extraordinary immersive experience, housed within a custom-built pop-up structure that would be both captivating and unconventional. Equally critical to the creative vision was the entertainment, as our clients' deep appreciation for the arts called for a celebration of diverse artistic disciplines. To include blended live performances with theatrical moments, to curate an evening of balanced refinement with just the right hint of risqué. 

What We Did ...

The result? A vibrant explosion of surrealism, a kaleidoscope of colour, and a night filled with boundless joy.

It was important for us to create an experience that was fully immersive, a beautiful fabulous, twisted fantasy. We made use of a spectrum of design services from overgrown foliage, drape, set design, light and over-sized props.
Taking inspiration from the iconic Rothschild Surrealist Ball, but adding elements of romantic modernism, we create a space that was a visual feast with unexpected humour at every twist and turn.

Unfolding archways of colour housing banquette seating and low-level lighting wrapped around the perimeter used our built structure in an efficient way. It was crucial to bring that luxury level to the interiors, with jewel-coloured velvets sitting alongside contemporary pastels throughout furniture. A key feature positioned centrally was a majestic imperial staircase leading to a viewing balcony and stage for our eclectic cast of performers. Beneath this, in the centre of the floor, we installed a sci fi inspired LED under-lit dance floor with added podiums as secondary performers areas for contortion acts. 

The sprawling, surrealist bar emerged out of a custom-made draped wall made from candy-coloured fallen pillars and oversized props completing the fun twisted fantasy. The juxtaposition between classical and modern contemporary added to the immersive surrealism of the space.

There were many twists and turns throughout the evening. We revealed two hidden rooms, housed under the imperial staircase, later in the evening. The Secret Surrealist Bar design on the sets and styles of Terry Gilliam serving cocktail that referenced the adventures of Baron Munchausen, with its interior of multiple television and bespoke imagery referencing Twelve Monkeys. Benvenuto Cellini style lighting and low-level seating gave a ‘Time Bandits’ vibe to the installation. 

The Red Room, an all-immersive space that doubled up as a seductive lounge complete with an edible dessert installation. Taking inspiration from James Turrells ’The Light Inside’ The Red Room housed sweet treats built into the walls, providing the perfect midnight pick me up, with every surface design in the same crimson hues from floor to ceiling. It tricked the guest into not knowing where one point began or ended, a very surreal experience.

This party was a riot of colour, joy and Surrealist eclecticism. One that will go down in history.
