Scale

Ten tables, fifty guests

We were asked by Quintessentially to style ten tables themed on the life and works of William Shakespeare, the late Tudor period and its royal associations, as part of a layout for a corporate lunch for 50 guests, in Shoreditch, east London.

Three of Shakespeare’s most famous titles played a key role in both the table décor and design elements throughout dinner and the presentations, including custom made soundscapes. Romeo and Juliet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Henry V were the celebrated plays that influenced a three-course dinner.

Ten Tables, One Period

The Events Mill’s concept and inspiration for the ten tables was shaped by a multitude of cultural references to this specific period of history.

The Themes

We styled each table in a unique way making use of props, scenic décor, costume and flowers. Our table themes included: Mr. Shakespeare; The Mary Rose; A Tudor Banquet; Court Life; The Scribe; A Royal Hunt; Costume; and of course, options for the three celebrated literary works.

A boar's head centrepiece amid heaped fruit, the Tudor banquet table.
A chequered court table with candles and a carved chest behind.
A place setting with a red bound book and a quill laid across it.
Antlers, holly and candles massed along the centre of the hunt table.
A ship in a bottle lit on the table, the Mary Rose.
A table card set among florals and dried stems.
Tall red rose centrepieces rising above the laid tables.

Curated, Not Decorated

The overall effect was intimate, beautifully curated and carefully considered to create an authentic edge to the dining experience, and to truly immerse the guests into a feast that would be fit for any royal guest.

Florals arranged over carved stone blocks.

Ten tables, ten worlds, one afternoon. The same thinking scales to one table or to two hundred.
